A group of William Morris students also took part in the BBC ‘Slambassadors’ competition, for which they had to write and perform their own poetry. We are delighted that the competition was won by one of our second year A level students, Anfal Abada, with another second year, Faisal Salah, receiving a special commendation from Benjamin Zepheniah. Faisal has been asked to perform his poem at a special event at St Paul’s Cathedral at the end of January.

SLAMbassadors is being run by The Poetry Society again this year in 2017- check out: http://slam.poetrysociety.org.uk/ for more information!

PALMES ACADÉMIQUES AWARD FOR EX-WMSF STAFF

On Tuesday the 24th March 2015 an award ceremony for Annie Taylor took place at William Morris Sixth Form. Annie had been head of languages at WMSF for many years and this prestigious award was given by the French Government in recognition of the wonderful years of service by Annie and amazing results achieved by the students. The Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques was presented by Laurent Batut, Deputy Cultural Counsellor at the Institut Français. Both Laurent and Annie commented on how pleased they were to see that the tradition of high quality French teaching and first-class results has been continuing since Annie’s retirement!
